Unpleasant Street ⏩ Party

Singapore ,2018

Today we present you Urban Ventures, those responsible of the first Carbon-neutral Street Activation in Singapore. In July 2018 they have been certified Carbon Neutral by offsetting 21 metric tons of CO2.

#UrbanVenturesSG is an independent placemaking initiative to reclaim public space for local businesses, art and culture by employing a ground-up space activation technique.

Through engaging interventions, they aim to challenge urban stigmas and change opinions to create more inclusive communities.

This engagement is achieved through 4 pillars:
– F and B: Showcasing Prominent Tastemakers. The tableware is compostable and the cups are made from PLA
– Music: Supporting Local Talents
– Art: Interactive installations who beautify Communal Spaces
– Creative Workshops: Creating Engaging Experiences. for example workshops on how to create your own lamp or a yoga masterclass

Between 2016 and 2019, the Temple Road, Keong Saik and Jiak Chuan Rd streets, the multi-storey carpark in Jalan Besar, and the Duxton Plain park were intervened on several occasions for a couple of days. In its last intervention on 6 October 2018, on Temple Road, more than 19 bands performed. As you can see in the images, it was a big success.

The street can not only be the place where you move, but the place where you exercise, learn and enjoy with your neighbours.

What do you think about this initiative?
