Sendlinger Street

Munich, Germany ,2017

When is the last time you dined with all your neighbors in the middle of the street? In June 2017, more than 1000 Munich citizens did just that in Sendlinger Street. Turning this inner city street in Munich into a pedestrian zone was aimed at increasing the liveability there, by creating a common urban space where people can rest, enjoy walking and just be. Of course there all kinds of difficulties one can run into (like where do you park your car?) but, as this example makes clear, a whole range of possibilities for social interaction are also opened up!
