Rice Terraces

New York City, USA ,2021

Check out this popular multi-colored project called “Rice Terraces” by @dasicfernandez. This 450m2 project is on the historic Doyers Street in Chinatown, NYC.

It is part of the NYC Department of Transportation’s “Asphalt Art Activations” project, which involves partnering with artists who create large murals that are painted on repurposed asphalt and made into pedestrian areas. Likewise, it is part of the program Open Streets, witch means that the street is closed to vehicular traffic daily from noon to 11: 00 p.m.

The design is inspired in rice cultivation terraces, commonly found in China. The design aims to create a 3D experiemce and attract pedestrians to walk across the street.
