Magic Hour Road Tattoo in NY

New York City, NY, USA ,2022

The @garmentdistrictnyc unveiled on the 4th August 2021, a ⏪225-foot-long⏩ stretching from 39th to 40th Streets on its Broadway. 💥 This artwork was created by local artist, @steed_taylor, and it is part of GDA’s summer programming, with weekly live musical performances on the district’s plazas. 🎶💃

This road tattoo creates a urban oasis for locals and visitors, and pays homage to communities, with roads serving as the ‘skin’ of the community. 👏 It creates a winding path in the heart of Midtown’s Garment District through trees and planters 🌱, representing the transition from day to night 🌄, when the sun is setting and the light is golden. It also includes the definition of golden hour by passersby. 🚶

The installation is part of Garment District Art on the Plazas, a year-round public art program made possible through Arterventions, part of the New York City Department of Transportation’s Art Program. It is also a component of DOT’s Seasonal Streets – temporary transformations of streets into vibrant public space. ✨

Urban art 🎨 enhances the quality of our public spaces and inspires citizens and visitors to reimagine the purpose and potential of our streets.🌇
