Cidade para Pessoas

São Paulo, Brazil ,

The streets are much more than roads and sidewalks.

The Passanela project started during a workshop of the Cidade para Pessoas group. It was identified there that pedestrian overpasses in Brazil are uninviting places, since they are seen as not safe and as unpleasant routes that offer no protection from the Brazilian warm sun and from crime.

The overpass received then new signs, plants, handmade benches, structures that created shade and playful colorful objects. Most of the materials used were eco-friendly, such as re-used fabric, wood and bamboo.
