Bhubaneswar Intersection

Bhubaneswar, India ,2017

In this street experiment, pedestrian safety at a busy intersection in Bhubaneswar was the goal. During a workshop with children, new measurements to improve street safety were discussed and resulted in a new, holistic design. Changes included traffic bulb- outs and advanced pedestrian crossing marks through the addition of barricades, traffic cones and ropes, as well as paint. After the test weekend, it was determined that the changes had minimised illegal parking and wrong side driving, as well as a positive effect on the perceived safety of pedestrians.
